Running Calendar: Canberra Marathon - Apr.
Yesterday was 'D' day for months of training with my first running of the Six Foot Track. I had no pressure on me just go and run and see how it all pan's out. I had set a time of somewhere between 5 and 6 hrs as my finishing time. I finished in 5hrs 57mins 52sec. 547 overall (according to the SFT site results), 168 in age category.
I started in Wave 4. Not knowing exactly what to expect I took the advice of Two Fruits an tried not to run too hard on the leg to Cox's River. I ran it in 1:35:28. Much faster than I thought I did. So it turns out that I was in good shape to this point. I did a bit too much walking between Cox's and the Pluviometre.
A mix of run and walk up the Black Range to the Deviation and then I found my second wind. I wish it had kicked in a lot earlier. I'm looking forward to seeing my splits for the section from the Deviation to Binda Huts and then to Caves House. I was watching the clock after it ticked past 4hr 30min and I have to say that I was reckless in my running the down hill sections towards the end.
It was a tremendous thrill to cross that finish line. Probably because each person at the finish line knows what an accomplishment it is to finish this race and they all acknowledge it with warm applause. I am very happy with my performance and I'm counting down the days until next year's race. This is the best event I have run.
I have to thank Two Fruits for his training and advice. You are a constant source of insipration. Also everyone else in the running group.
Now it's time to rest up and then focus on the Canberra Marathon.

Sub-6 hours on your first attempt is an excellent run. Glad you enjoyed it. Not sure why we keep coming back, but as you said, anyone who makes it to the finish deserves applause.
Glad you enjoyed the months of training, and the run itself. Tough day at the running office for sure, and as others will write, a long hard slog to recovery. Rest up well before starting to look at the marathon.
