Running Calendar: Googong Half - July and Jaggad Bush Marathon - July, Brindabella Classic - October.
This morning was the Canberra Half Marathon. The weather was on the cold side but no rain. Last week was very busy at work and it disrupted my pre-race training with only three short runs.
I opted to run in a sleeved running top which was ok but could have easily run in a singlet. Some ran in skins and vests and by the look of them coming through the finishing gates they wished they could have rethought their choice.
I ran fairly close to my race plan and was happy with the effort. Finishing time 01:42:50 by the Garmin. Average pace 4:51 and a best pace 3:35. The start was difficult because of slower runners who started at the front of the field and I guess I must have been cut off a dozen times. Two Fruits your words of wisdom about the race plan worked a treat. I worked my way through the field for the first part until it thinned out and then worked on moving from the back to the front of a group and then set out after the next group. I also ran in surges so that lactic acid build up didn't slow me down.
I made up a lot of places doing this and was still passing other runners right to the finish line. Not sure what place I came but will be interested to find out when they post the results. My time was four minutes outside my PB so I am happy with that and they are slowly getting back to what I know I can run.
Next run is the Googong Half in July. Lots of time to train and plan....bring it on!!
