I travelled to Sydney with Two Fruits for the CP100 ant Centennial Park. I'm not sure how to write this blog as there was so much going on so here's a bit a of a brain dump.
An early start on a morning with light cloud cover. We set up our drinks etc in the dark. As the light broke through more people arrived and things took shape.
19 starters in the 100km race assembled at the start line. Off we went for a 400m out and back before settling in to 28 laps.
I started out at 5:32 k pace for the first 5-6 laps. With light showers the humidity came, I got a little dizzy so I stopped eating and reverted to gels. I walked almost a full lap before I came right. I mixed the walking and running for the most of the race. I was really happy with the speed of my walking.
CP was a hive of activity so there was a lot to see and keep my mind occupied.
I was relieved to hear the call of five laps to go. So I just kept going. Two laps to go with an hour on the clock I reeled out two laps at just over 5k pace.
My goal going into the race was to finish under the cut off and I thought about 11hrs 30mins was achievable. I was really happy with my finish time of 11hrs 46mins.
It's hard to come in at the end of the pack when people only want to pack up and go home after a long day. Given 5 other runners finished between 11hrs and my time I was only 46mins away from a mid field place against runners who have run this distance before.
Thanks to Two Fruits who has really been my guiding light when it comes to all things running.
Now it's time to rest up and then look at freshening up to Canberra Mara.

And now you know how hard it is to run 100km and how good it feels to do it. Congrats. Rest up - a lot!
nice work and congratulations - i'm so glad it all came together. good on you!
Congratulations! Worth all the hard yakka in training to finish the inaugural CP100 under the cut-off. Looks like it was a great event. Not sure about the summer timing though - that's cruel.
