WOW! This was the toughest run I have done to date. Having said that it is also the most enjoyable. The reason I run trails is the challenge they present. Maroondah did all that and more.

My overall performance was not where I thought I would have been before the race but now it's done I am a lot wiser for next year (yes it's already penciled in).

The start of the race was very technical. I found the single file a bit slow and frustrating. The hills that followed made me focus on my own race.

A basic error between the 10 and 20km mark (I took a wrong turn) cost me and extra 5km and put me on the back foot for the rest of the run. That said I was very happy with the finish. I'm not sure what the final time will be as I had to wait at a couple of aid stations before I could go on, all the while the clock was ticking. I think my final time for the 50km would have been around 7hrs 15min.

For those that had time to look around there was some very pretty country side with new life springing about everywhere. It's good to get away with friends who share the interest in running, it made for a very enjoyable weekend.

I am surprised that I have recovered so well. Started back running yesterday. No apparent problems.

Well done Softshoe! That's saying something if it's your toughest ever run. On a hot day the last thing you need is a 5k 'detour'. Anyway, sounds like you'll back up well at 6'. Take it easy until then.
