Running Calendar: Canberra Centennary 100, Hume & Hovell 100 Miler

So now I've run the Coburg 24hr. Coming into the race I had two goals. The first was to get a 24hr done and the second was to see if I could run 100 miles.

I had a less than optimum buildup to this run with a few niggles that upset my training. A quad strain inside the last three weeks threatened to derail my hopes of running. But careful management put things right. I wasn't sure what I could produce on the day.

I felt good before the race and the conditions turned out to be perfect. Cloud cover made it just right for running. I had a race plan and it worked well for the first 12hrs. Run an even pace and stop on the hour and half hour for food and drink and walk a lap.

The second 12hrs and my quads tightened up so much that I was sure that if I continued to run I was going to tear something. So I walked, my pace was around 8:30 which was nearly as good as running.

It was good to see the sun come up, you just know the end is not far away. Nothing you can do at that stage if your race has gone pear shaped during the night but you can tough it out until the end.

My final total was 151km (official) and the garmin measured slightly longer at 157km, it's a long was to the toilet! I am really happy with the result even if I only ticked off one of my goals. I had heaps of positives to take out of this race and a few things I would do differently. I'll get that 100 miles on my next crack.

Now it's time to sit back and reflect, recover and then build for my next race. A change of pace, the Canberra Centenary 100. A toatally different animal which will require lots of hill training, and lots of long runs.

Well done - incredible achievement that. Looked up the results and saw you'd lapped the coach a few times. Pretty damn close to the magical 100 miles in a day. All good experience for the next one.

Top effort at first attempt at 24 hours. It's not easy & things go wrong especially after your interupted lead in.
Rest is best now, get over this one then focus on next project.
