On Sunday I ran Bogong2Hotham. A 64km trail run in the Australian Alps with a tough 6hr cut off at the 35km mark. If you don't make the cut then your race is done. The race has the reputation as being the toughest short course ultra in Australia.
Having done the race I know why. The first half has two brutal ascents and one decent in the first half. It has the name 'The Rooftop Run' and once you get to the top the views are spectacular.
I took too long to get up the first climb and then mucked up my hydration coming out of the river crossing before the second ascent. It was hot and I was running out of fluids fast and a long way to go before the next water stop.
I ended up missing the cut, something I guess I knew would be how the race would unfold given my scratchy preparation.
This race is certainly on a much higher level than anything I have ever done before. But now I've had a taste it's one that I really need to finish off.
It's time now to have a second look at the list above and work out what direction I want to take. Track or trail?

Good to hear you're keen to go back. Take Steve with you. Unfinished business!

Trail, much more variety & less injury due to variation in surface & terrain. Scenery is better as well.
