I had an ok build up to the Sri Chinmoy 24hr. As a bit of a race report what can be said. I started the race feeling good and kept my pace to where I wanted it, resisting the temptation to go faster. The result was I set my run up beautifully. My nutrition and hydration were spot on. I got to 12hrs in a really good condition and planned to run a few more hours and then add a bit more walking into the mix.
BIG MISTAKE!
I was walking at a healty pace and wasn't loosing much by doing so but it's a change in foot strike and again I got deep blisters on the balls of my feet.
From there things went downhill. At 18+ hours I took a break with the intention of trying to put some padding on my feet and go back out. I sat down and this was my undoing. With cold hands that had no feeling I was helpless to do anything. My head got in the way and my race was done.
A disappointing result when I know I was well on my way to getting to the 100 miles.
So 100 miles remains a bucket list target that is unfinished. I have three more races to finish off the year and then I will target the Coburg 24hr next year as the race to put this elusive distance to rest.
